Oxygen Sensors Needed for Good Fuel Mileage

The oxygen sensor looks like a spark plug screwed into your front and rear catalytic converters. The sensor detects free oxygen in your exhaust, and relays that information back to the fuel injection computer.

It is crucial that the sensors are in perfect working condition. When one of them fail, the check engine light will be lit. Some cars have 1 sensor and some have 2 or 4 sensors. If the sensors are not replaced, the converters themselves will fail. When raw fuel enters the converter, the converter clogs and will need to be replaced. Changing all your oxygen sensors before they fail as a maintenance procedure is important and should be done.
