How to prevent an early death on the 1990-94 XJ6 Jaguar hydraulic pump

Jaguar Parts Technical Information

The hydraulic system pump that operates the rear brakes is run by a massively-expensive electric motor. This motor tends to burn out when allowed to run continuously. What makes it run continuously? A bad accumulator ball. This is the large black ball just under the left side of the windshield, just under the hood (bonnet). The pump should run no more than 15 seconds, then shut off. If it keeps running, STOP THE CAR BEFORE YOU BURN THE ELECTRIC MOTOR UP!. At $1500, you don't want to buy a new electric motor. If your electric motor is running practically all the time, replace the accumulator ball.
