1988-1994 XJ6 Brake Parts Replacement Information

Older cars (pre-89) used a hydraulically boosted Girling system, including a ram in back of the conventional master brake cylinder dispensing its fluid supply with the self-leveling rear suspension (when fitted). Sooner or later the accumulator sphere will leak away its nitrogen causing a low pressure warning after one or two pumps of the pedal, while the two pressure switches - one to regulate pressure, the other to operate the warning light, will no doubt start to leak long before they fail electrically. Replacement of all three is straightforward once the pedal has been pumped at least twenty times to depressurize the system fully.
