The XJ40 Jaguar is weak in the differential which will wear and become noisy, frequently within 100,000 miles. Usually all that is needed is a fresh set of bearings, but if a leaking pinion seal is ignored for too long or the bearing is improperly tightened during seal replacement, the whole assembly can be terribly damaged.
