11. Sticky Door Locks

Jaguar Parts Technical Information part 3

On my 1985 XJ6, you used to be able to unlock the doors with a dime! Why? Because the door lock barrel was so gunked up with years of dirt, grease and grime, that when you turned the silver slotted part of the lock, the whole lock turned. The solution was easy: clean and lubricate the lock assembly. Once the lock barrel is cleaned out with a non-residue spray cleaner, let it dry completely then lubricate the lock barrel with graphite powder, or other lubricant designed for locks. Greases and other liquid lubricants will collect dust and dirt and will gunk the lock up again.
