Halogen Headlamps burn brighter than Sealed Beam Lamps on a Jaguar

Halogen headlamps provide brighter light than regular sealed beam lamps, but that's not the only difference. There is also a difference in the way they age.

Regular sealed beam lamps start out bright, then gradually dim over time. Halogen lamps start and stay bright for a long time, then toward the end of their life they quickly fade and produce much less light.

Halogen lamp manufacturers recommend replacement as soon as this dimming starts, and they also recommend replacing all headlamps as a set to maintain optimal visibility.

Halogen headlamps will also continue to burn when the lens is cracked or punctured, but they will produce less light once damaged.
