19. XJS Rear Window Leaks, leading to a trashed fuel tank

Jaguar Parts Technical Information

The rear window on the XJS coupe has a tendency to leak water imperceptibly. The rear glass seal is to blame. Underneath the fuel tank is a rubber foam mat. When the water leaks in, it drains down past the fuel tank and collects in the rubber mat, then starts to rust the bottom of the fuel tank. This leads to many pinhole fuel leaks. A new fuel tank is over $500 (plus installation labor) so it pays to ensure that your rear glass seal doesn't leak.
